Today was the Entenmann’s Great South Bay 5K. I woke up at 5:45, took a shower, stretched, made some food, and got in the car to. Unfortunately it was POURING down rain.

You might remember my first 5K in August, also had rain. Apparently I can’t run in nice weather
. It was also humid as hell today.
But we checked in, drove far away to park so we wouldn’t be trapped in by the race, and then walked back to the start of the race. Walking back there were about a million puddles and it was pouring so I was completely soaked.
I waited on line forever for the bathroom and by the time I found my dad my grandmother had come out to watch.

Shortly after that we lined up to start. It was really organized and set up great. There was the 5K, 10K, and a half marathon and we all started together. I’m not sure if they started our chips at different times or at the same time, I’ll have to see when they post the results online. And, best of all, the moment we lined up it stopped raining!
The course was really flat and relatively easy. There was some dodging of puddles and I stopped for water once. I felt like running with my dad, who is a much faster and more experienced runner than me was good because he kept me going at a quick pace.

There we are (all the way on the left) at what I thought was almost the end. I knew we had to run past where we started but I didn’t realize how far we had to run past where we started.
My dad ran ahead of me at that point because I was dragging a little. I crossed the finish line in just over 30 mins.

I forgot to hit the stop button so I think it was either just under or just over 30 mins. I was really happy.

Note the delicious red Gatorade!!! Love it, but only on spcial occaisons. I also had 3 mini brownie bites from Entenmann’s. I had to do it. And then I had a banana and almond butter back at the car.
Walking back to the car we saw a wedding at church

I was so happy to make it back to the car. I was sweaty and wet and cold and sore. Which you can see evidence of in my socks

Overall it was a really great experience. I’m happy with my time, the rain stopped right in time to run, and I had a great time. Can’t wait until my next race
Because it’s my dad’s birthday we’re having a small party here in about an hour. Then I think I’m off to Target to check out some cheap winter running clothes!
Congrats on a great race!
